MY PERSONAL PAGE

SINCE I HAVE GOTTEN OLD

EXCUSE ME FOR THAT STATEMENT; actually, as they say now, since I have joined the ranks of the group of senior citizens, I have more or less joined the sitter arounders, living and breathing my books; very Realistic Fiction Books that I put many years into writing, editing and re-writing, and that I am now looking forward to getting into the hands of everyone that appreciates good Historical Romance Novels. as well as them being Stories on Freedom.

And according to ELLEN TANNER MARSH, NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLING AUTHOR, they are very good novels including being Civil War Historical Fiction. They begin shortly before the Civil War began and end after peace was restored. They could also be termed Slave Stories, although the main reference to slavery is to explain what life was like for Jasper, an escaped slave, before he ran away from the plantation.

See the Reviews by ELLEN TANNER MARSH for each of the three THE ECSTASY OF FREEDOM BOOKS on my home page. She refers to them as Brilliant; Masterful and other good remarks.

Although they are Historical Fiction Books they are also instructional books; with these three books you could learn how to drive a trail herd of cattle to market, what to do and not to do during a stampede, how to set traps for small animals for fur, use a pan and sluice box for gold, operate a primitive saw-mill build like they did during the eighteenth century and many other things that I teach in the books

Since I almost always take one of my books with me, as I was reading and displaying one of my books while waiting for an appointment, a young lady that worked there asked me what my books were about. As I began explaining that they were about a young slave that ran away from a plantation along the Mississippi River, crossed the river on a raft and joined a Tribe of Indians I got a tongue lashing that I will not soon forget.

“We blacks don’t want to read anything about slavery. Besides you know nothing about slavery and know nothing about the subject that you have written about,” she said as she walked away. We were in an office and she was dressing me down as she went into the back office where I couldn’t hear her, and if you can imagine, I was relieved when she disappeared behind the door.

Had she given me a chance, I would have told her that The Ecstasy of Freedom, a three book series, is not about slavery; not about slavery at all. Although they could be called Slave Stories because they cover a time period including before, during and after the Civil Warand contain some content of that time, they are really Stories on Freedom. Each of the three books stands on their own as Historical Fiction Novels and when they are read in sequence they blend together as three Historical Romance Novels. The whole story really combines to contain a historical detailed success story about a young man, a boy actually, that ran away from a plantation, with only enough about Slavery to describe his earlier life and explain his reasons for running away along with what life was like on the plantation.

And I do know about slavery; when I was very young, living in the hills of Mississippi, I have talked to people that had family members that had been slaves; some of them were still living at that time, and they had their Slave Stories, explaining what it had been like living in bondage, not being able to leave the plantation. Some of them lived their whole lives in the same little house they were born in, with no rights of any kind. They explained how terrified they had been to leave what had been their home for all of their lives, not being able to read and write and not knowing their exact age. They had no idea what a town looked like and what they could expect when they reached one, but they had been determined to leave no matter what they found because their master or owner had been awfully mean to them. He had kept them cowed from fear of being whipped. And he said that one of the slaves had tried escaping and had been whipped mercilessly.
I heartily oppose anyone having complete control of another by any means even suggesting slavery, but if you couple what I have learned firsthand along with all of the literature that I read while in school during the nineteen thirties about slavery, I think I am as much an authority on the subject as anyone my age.

Even though The Ecstasy of Freedom as a whole is a three book continuous Historical Fiction Novel, if you read it in its entirety you will find where I teach Jasper to do many things including those mentioned earlier; they are not fiction, but facts. Almost all of the jobs or traits that I have taught Jasper in the three books, I have personally done. (See about the author) accessed from the navigation menu on the home page. To me he seems like a real person; as if it was me growing up again. As I grew up, if I wasn’t working or in school and someone wanted something done, especially if I hadn’t done that particular thing in the past, I would volunteer and either learn or increase my knowledge. That’s how I learned the basic skills of rounding up cattle, branding, even learning some skills in breaking and training horses; although I later had my own brand, before the Army drafted me. I even volunteered and learned to milk cows by hand on a dairy, which is a thing of the past now.

I plan to begin writing a newsletter that I will use to go into more details about the teachings of what I have done during my eighty one years, along with many other articles including many places that I have been while traveling around this USA along with many other things and excerpts from my writing. But anyone paying attention while reading The Ecstasy of Freedom and some of my other books, which are offered as download books from this site, will be able to herd cattle, shoe a horse, trap for small animals, pan for gold, work in a sawmill and build like they did during the nineteen hundreds as well as other things.

Please opt on for the newsletter by sending an email or letter asking to be included for the email letter or opting on by filling out the form provided on this website. I can’t promise exactly when I will begin the newsletter, but it should be interesting to you when it is available. I plan on sending one to all subscribers each month along with any special offers that are available.
