PREVIEWS FOR THE ECSTASY OF FREEDOM BOOK 1 Click here to buy now AS YOU READ the previews for these three books, THE ECSTASY OF FREEDOM BOOKS ONE, TWO AND THREE, you will find that there are many subjects and locations covered, different in each of the three books, and well described. As the author I created them as Realistic Fiction Books and have described, in the three previews, the three book continuing novel and show in the three previews where the three books intertwine with each other to form the complete novel that makes them Historical Fiction Books. Their content, well described by the author from studies done on Slave Stories of the time; the Civil War era, and since the author is aged, from people that knew about that period of time firsthand. As the author, I have created the fictional Mr. Brisley and the fictional Jasper for a definite purpose. Although these are only fictional Stories on Freedom, in the event that they may be rewritten and produced as a movie as many people that have read the books and one large NATIONAL PUBLISHING COMPANY indicated that they would be well suited for, I wanted a main character that was caring and wanted the best he could provide for his workers, even though they were owned by him as Slaves; they could have been exploited and treated by Mr. Brisley as the fictional Master George treated them in book one. I wanted the fictional Jasper to grow up fast, indicating that they are Realistic Fiction Novels, and assume the responsibility for his own welfare and his own future and treat his family and others as I think a son should; never forgetting for a moment that he left them behind and wanting to help them attain their own Freedom. If you will click on each of the images of THE ECSTASY OF FREEDOM, BOOKS ONE, TWO AND THREE on the home page you will find that each has it’s own REVIEW BY ELLEN TANNER MARSH, NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLING AUTHOR referring to them as Brilliant, Masterful and other good comments, indicating that they are Civil War Historical Fiction as well as, but not limited to, Slave Stories. If you will click on ABOUT THE AUTHOR on the home page, even though it doesn’t nearly describe everything that I have done, you will see that I grew up fast as I wanted Jasper to grow up and to be identified with Stories on Freedom. I have always treated people that were in my employ, in whatever capacity, as individuals as I wanted to be treated, and not as merely numbers on a roster; that had no responsibilities of their own. I was always a hands-on person and never assigned a job to anyone because I didn’t want to do it myself. Book one, the beginning of the novel, could be classified with Slave Srories or it could be identified with Civil War Historical Fiction since the timeframe of the novel as a whole began a year before the civil war began and ended after hostilities ended and peace was restored. *** Jasper was afraid; not afraid as some people would be afraid, but terrified. He was in a dense forest trying to sleep when animals began making noises that seemed to be on all sides of him. They seemed to be tearing at the soil or otherwise making a scratching sound as he had seen and heard a bull do on more than one occasion. It was so dark that he could see nothing and all he had to protect himself with was a knife, so he clutched it tightly in his right hand and waited for the attack to occur. The only times that he had spent the entire night in the woods had been with Mr. Brisley’s son George and they had always been almost within sight of the Big House. He was so afraid that he was cringing in the old clothes that he had brought to use for a bed, placing them over him so that when the attack came he would have some protection while he tried to use the knife.

He knew that a knife would be poor protection as dark as it was, but he had honed it until it was sharp enough to cut paper but that didn’t alleviate his fears in the least because slashing at something blindly with the clothes interfering may have rendered his knife useless. When morning finally came he looked around and discovered that during the night a skunk or a number of skunks had been tearing at the old rotten logs all around his bed, near his head, looking for bugs and small grubs or termites. He could have felt embarrassed at himself for being so afraid, but with this being among Historical Fiction Books, he was not because the only thing that he knew about where he had spent the night before was what people had told him. They had said that there were panthers, wolves, coyotes and even some bears there. After all he was in strange country and even in a different state. He had crossed the river on a raft the day before and with these being Stories on Fiction; Jasper was taking his newfound freedom seriously, getting as far away from the river as possible before he stopped, even though he was exhausted. When it was so dark that he could no longer see and he could hardly put one foot ahead of the other, he had merely crawled into a small dense thicket, taken the old rags out of his tote sack and tried to sleep, which soon became impossible. Jasper was a tall boy, and fairly heavy for his age, and very strong. He had been doing the work of a man and been treated like a man for years, but at seventeen he could still be considered a boy. Jasper had been thinking about leaving home for a long time! Not just home as most people know home, but the only home that he had known since he could remember; he could remember everything that had happened since he had been a small boy, and the first few years of his life had been very pleasant. Then things had begun changing for him and the last few years of his life had become almost unbearable. Since Mr. Brisley’s son George had been in charge he had become completely unreasonable. *** Picture church here He had thought about leaving since he had been told as a small child that he belonged to Mr. Brisley, placing him with Slave Stories, and that he would forever have to do what him or his son George told him to do. He was supposed to have no mind of his own as most people have, but was to be like a pawn in a game of life to be used at the will of his owner; to be moved and thrown around at will. But he definitely had a mind of his own even at a young age and wanted something out of life except being told what to do all of his life.
But he knew that he could not leave at his age and as he grew older he had more or less resigned himself to doing the best he could to please them and trying the best that he could to get along with them. Since these are Realistic Fiction Books, he decided that he would just do his work and be as inconspicuous as possible. Then Mr. Brisley’s son George had whipped him. Not just a whipping as some of the other slaves had been whipped, but because he would not beg and plead with him to stop, he had been whipped with a blacksnake whip until he was a bloody mess from his shoulders all the way down his back. That’s when he began thinking more seriously about leaving. *** When Jasper had almost reached the other side of the small stream he was crossing and while the raft was rounding a bend in the stream, he ran headlong into the branches of a tree that had fallen into the water. His first thoughts were that if he didn’t have bad luck, he would have no luck at all. It was almost dark and while he was trying desperately to free the raft so he could get it to the bank, he noticed something hanging in the branches of the tree. It looked like leather. Now where would leather come from here, he wondered? He hung onto a branch and leaned into the tree as far as he could, then he could see that it was a person lodged there. With not even a hint of hesitation, he jumped into the water and by working himself between the limbs he managed to get near enough to reach the person. Just as he was reaching for him he slipped from the tree and was going under the water. Oh no, he thought, I’m not going to lose him after all of this trouble, or am I? By struggling and fighting branches he managed to get one arm around the person. Then he was alongside the raft again with his arm around the person while he fought to keep his footing. After a struggle he was able to lift the person onto the raft. From what he could see in the semi-darkness, he could tell that he was a young man, of about his age. He checked the depth of the water between the raft and the bank and found that he could wade and push the raft to a point near the bank where he could anchor it behind the tree stump. In keeping with it being among Historical Fiction Books, he pushed it as close as he could get to the bank and with a lot of effort he got it anchored behind the tree stump that was partly in the water and solid enough that it would stay there until morning. Then by wading between the raft and the bank, he got the man off the raft and threw him onto the bank flat of his back. Then he found that the bank was high enough and also so slippery that he had to dig into the bag and get the broken shovel and he worked feverishly to dig part of the bank away so he could get solid enough footing to climb out of the water. *** The man with two guns stopped his horse near a small thicket, looked around and saw that the other man, the man that had been following Jasper, was gone. There had originally been three men that abducted Jasper, but the man with two guns had killed one of them that morning while they argued during breakfast and the other man had taken his first opportunity to leave. They were returning him for the reward that would be offered for an escaped slave.

“Now it looks like the only thing to do is to shoot you,” the man said as if he was musing aloud, and that shooting Jasper may be like killing a rabbit. “I’m not about to go into that town myself and take a chance that they will recognize me. Besides, having all of the gold myself, I will have enough to last me for many years.” To Jasper he said, “I’m not much of a cook, so if you will cook me some supper, I may let you live until after you cook breakfast; then you’re a dead runaway slave. I have taken a shine to that buckskin suit someone made for you but the pants would never fit me. But the shirt was made loose and a little too long; it should fit me like a glove. Take it off and put my shirt on before you cook supper.” He was referring to the suit of buckskin clothing that Early Flower, the chief’s lovely daughter that Jasper had fallen madly in love with, beginning the Historic Romance Novels themes that all three books contain throughout. He untied Jasper’s hands and had him to take off his shirt and lay it on a log, then move away. Then he lay one of his pistols on the log and put on Jaspers shirt. Even though the shirt was a little short and a little tight Jasper knew that he had lost his shirt. “Now get busy cooking; I want it done before dark.” When he had finished eating, the man tied Jasper’s hands together but left a little slack so that he could eat some of the food that was left. Jasper wasn’t really interested in food but he knew that he should keep his strength in case he had a chance to escape, so he ate the food. When the man tied him to a tree he forgot to tie his hands tighter and he had tied them around the sleeves of the man’s shirt that were too long for Jasper. The man got up and mumbled as if talking to himself “better check the back-trail.” He wandered out of the thicket following the tracks they had made coming there. The second he was gone Jasper, not wanting to again be among Slave Stories, began working his hands out of the ropes. The hands readily came loose but he could barely reach the knot on the rope tied around the tree and the knot was tight. After what seemed like hours Jasper finally had the ropes loose and off him. I am free again he thought as he immediately jumped up and, going around the tree, headed for the open area behind the tree; heading for some timber that he could see ahead. He had gone only a few yards when a gunshot sounded ahead of him and he felt pain in his left side. The man had circled and was coming out of the timber a short distance ahead of him. Jasper went down on his face because he didn’t want to risk another shot that would probably kill him. As Jasper was lying there thinking that if he stayed flat on the ground, maybe the man would think that he was dead and leave him, but the man said, “Get up and stop playing possum because I know where I shot you. You’ve been hit in the left side and the worst you may have are some broken ribs. I didn’t want to kill you and have the animals fighting over you during the night.” What a hard hearted man, Jasper was thinking as he was being tied to the tree again without the man even checking his side. But he knew that he was lucky that the man was such an expert with a handgun because if the bullet had gone two inches to the man’s left he would more than likely be dead.
