The Ecstasy of Freedom Books Are

Realistic Fiction Books And

Historical Romance Novels

Each Ecstasy of Freedom Book is a Complete Novel

Each Book Stands On Its Own As A Saga Of The Escaped Slave, Jasper

But when they are read in sequrnce as a trilogy,  they are a continuing three book novel. But they are not written in a monologue fashion, carrying the same theme throughout the novel; each book has it's own identity and it's own storyline.and teachings as well as differing actions and perils. The descriptions of Jasper's escape and ensuing activities are so detailed that you feel you are there with Jasper, urging him on and helping him in his escape and his every endeavor.

These Novels Have Many Themes But Continue the Same Storyline

There is only a limited content about slaves, but all three books could be classified as Slave Stories because book one begins by explaining what life was like as a young slave on a plantation and until the slaves were freed, Jasper, although he was enjoying his new-found freedom, was a runaway slave. It could also be classified as a  Civil War Historical Fiction novel although neither book has any actual content about any hostilities of the Civil War.  Book One begins the year before the Civil War began and Book Three ends after the Civil War ended and peace was restored. The three novels, when read in sequence as one complete continuing novel, could be described as Stories on Freedom that could also be termed Civil War Stories because of the period in time that it covers. Jasper's life began long berore the Civil War began and he had escaped and had already corssed the continent when hostilities began.

Book one begins with Jasper, a young slave, running away from a plantation and crossing the Mississippi River on a raft, beginning one of the most Realistic Fiction Books as well as being the best escaped slave story to date. It delves deeply into the anguish Jasper felt about leaving his family and home and going into a strange land alone after having been only to the small town nearby; a land about which he knew nothing. He was afraid to ask his owner, Mr. Brisley, what the country was like across the river for fear of giving him a clue of where to begin searching for him. He also worries constantly of how to get his family released from slavery.

In his quest for freedom he rescued a young Indian named Running Deer and they later become blood brothers and Jasper was later accepted into the tribe as a brave and warrior. He lived with the tribe for a time and although he knew nothing about romance, he fell in love with the chief's very aggressive, very attractive, very affection starved daughter, Early Flower, taking these books to a new level as Historical Romance Novels that also, by the detailed descriptions of that era enter the realm of Great Fiction Books, by delving into every aspect of historical fiction of that time.

After being captured by crooks, one of which was later killed by Running Deer, after being seriously wounded by a gunshot, he was fortunate to be alive. He got a lot of gold from the crook that he had taken from someone in California along with all of the equipment that he would need for the trip, if he went to California with the wagon train that was passing through the area.

With more than their share of realistic historical events, and a scattering of romance throughout all three books, each of these books stands on its own as a Historical Fiction Novel. And with his new found romance, which was a complete new experience for Jasper, as well as his feelings of being free, at least for the present time, he decides to stay there with Early Flower, with whom he feels that he is madly in love.

Book two could also be classified with Stories About Slavery because Jasper was still a runaway slave. It begins with Jasper, after some sleepless nights and much internal conflict concerning his new feelings of being in love, changes his mind about staying there with Early Flower and continues his adventure, as a guide and scout, leaving with the wagon train that was bound for California under the guidance of a wagonmaster and a head scout known only as Jim. Those would be new traits that Jasper would have to learn as they progressed.

As the wagon train progressed, at every opportunity Jasper studied with a schoolteacher, Mrs. Benson, who with her minister husband and daughter Julie, who was also being taught and at the same time helping Jasper with his studies, was going to Sacramento. Mr. Benson planned to build a church and parsonage and she would teach in public schools.

In nature, anything that can happen will, and with these three books having all of their varying content, anything that could happen did. Although he was still in love with Early Flower, Jasper fell deeply in love with Julie. Their romance began when they kissed after someone put mistletoe over the door at a Christmas gathering while they were waiting for the snow to melt so they could cross the mountains that had stopped them for the winter. Everyone had said that Julie had put it there and Jasper was obligated to kiss her.

Book two is filled with teachings of how to drive a trail herd to market, how to trap for furs to sell, how to shoe a horse, how to build a primitive road and other traits that Jasper learns along the trail west. Although the books are fiction, the teachings will work and did work for the author in everyday life. Click on About The Author on the menu bar for a partial bio of the author. Book two is also filled with action and perils along the trail west, such as escaping attack by hostile Indians only by Jasper's bravery and determination; determinatrion that identifies these books as the best Historical Fiction Books and bravery that brings about changes that will have far reaching effects on the safety of future travelers.

When they reached Sacramento, after learning to pan for gold, build a sluice box for gold, helping to work a sawmill, helping to build a house and church and doing other things that could possibly make him a living, Jasper decided to stay there with Julie and a child called Junior, whom he had assumed responsibility for after an accident that killed his parents along the way west. Jasper still yearns for more education, and since Mrs. Benson and Julie have reached the end of their expertise as teachers and he needs more advanced education, he is actively seeking training as an attorney.

Jasper Enters Yet Another Phase Of His Life

This Final Book Is Not Only Filled With Danger But Reveals Some  Secrets

THE GUARANTEE STILL STANDS

Complete Satisfaction Or Your Money Back

Book three begins with Jasper changing his mind about staying in Sacramento and leaving for San Francisco to study law. Although the books are Historical Romance Novels, and even though Jasper and Julie had not parted except for short periods for many months, their parting was not exceptionally emotional. They had both accepted the fact that he must have a means of support when his gold was depleted so his best option seemed to be going to San Francisco.

Jasper's arrival in San Francisco was filled with anxioties and concerns, him not knowing what to expect and having to suddenly adapt to a complete new lifestyle and environment. When he was told that there were many crooks there, even though he was wary of banks, having no knowledge of one, he was soon in great anticipation of reaching one, where he could leave his gold so it would be safe from the many crooks he then felt were all around him. Maybe even in the form of the wagon driver that had taken him to an assay office to have some gold changed to money.

Soon after his arrival in San Francisco, he found an attorney that would teach him the profession, but he was captured that same day and held in a basement until he was taken as a captive aboard a ship. Slavery again became the style of his life. He was then more a slave to the ship owner than he had been on the plantation, because he at least had his feet on the ground and had the possibility of escaping.

The ship went around the horn to Boston and Jasper was required to work every day until, while they were returning, by an ingenious method he escaped and arrived on shore near New Orleans. He went by the way of the Indians' winter camp to find that Early Flower would marry another brave. He returned to Sacramento by horseback, rescuing a man along the way that had let his burros get away and was near death on the plains; he gave Jasper a gold mine that he could no longer work in the Mother Lode area of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Book three describes how he was taught as an attorney and that he had never given up on his desire to help his family that he had left on the plantation. As he was crossing the country on the railroad on their behalf, that had been completed, the train was stopped and he was taken by a crook for ransom. With the help of another captive he escaped and took two other captives with him, sending them to Sacramento. When he arrived he found that his family was free and could leave, but they had stayed, refusing to leave until they knew of his whereabouts.

Jasper was given the plantation by his former owner, hoping that Jasper could make it profitable again, him being old and in bad health and wanting only a place to live until his death.. Jasper's plans were that the plantation would be converted to a cattle and horse ranch that his family would stay and operate. These are not only the best fiction books about an escaped slave, along with many topics; they combine to make this a success story about a young slave escaping from slavery and starting from nothing.
